TOP 5 things to do in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada (and Covid Protocols)

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

If you don't want read, here is the video I created:

Over the last 6 months, where I lived in Vancouver, I ended up spending a lot more time than I thought in Richmond. This underrated gem is really known for having the airport, but there is so much more to it than people make out. There is so much to do and so many fun activities you can enjoy with your friends and family. So let's talk about five things that you can do in Richmond:

Just so you guys are clear we are talking about:

Richmond in British Columbia, Canada

NOT

Richmond in the UK

Disclaimer: please check on the website of each of these places to see if things have changed because Covid safety protocols change constantly and I wouldn't want you guys to be surprised when going there.

1. Shopping at a Designer Outlet Mall

So the first one is definitely my favorite place for shopping it is the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Mall, it is really close to the airport and honestly it has some of the best shops. It not only has the well-known sports brands like Nike and Adidas, but it also has high-end designers like Burberry. Don't forget the everyday shops like Gap, it has a little bit of something for everybody.

Pricing: It is free to walk around, but just a word of warning it is outside so please try and choose a day that's kind of sunny.

Covid Protocols: Currently because of the Covid restrictions all the shops have a capacity which they must adhere to. They make you sanitize your hands before going into each shop and also you have to wear a mask when in the shops. They do advise to wear a mask around the complex itself as well, but it is not mandatory because it's outside.

2. Go Karting

If you're like me you definitely did this when you're younger and you probably had the best time with your friends. We went to a Go Karting Track called TBC Indoor Racing, but there are quite a few around that area. This one was an indoor track, before you go to the track to start racing you get a safety talk and helmets, everything you need to start go-karting. It's really good fun to go with a group of friends because you do get very competitive. Even though I lost I still had the best time. At the end of your race you get a sheet which tells you the times of each of your laps, so you can compare and decide who actually is the winner.

Pricing: it's $22 per race or I think there's a special deal on Thursday, but again check out their website because it may change due to Covid.

Covid Protocols: they sanitize all their helmets and their carts before you go in the. You have to sanitize your hands before you go into the building and also before you go into the go-kart. You must wear your mask at all times, so they're pretty safe.

3. Instagram Traps

Another great thing to do in Richmond is what I like to call an "Instagram Trap" (that's not its official name) they are actually called "Interactive Gallery Experiences" and the one we went to is called Pretty Lucid Place. It has 10 different rooms or 15 different rooms (depending on the one that you go to) and within each room there is a theme, all of the installations are interactive. You are able to touch, sit, stand or jump in/on every installation and you can take pictures pretty much everywhere, in fact they actually encourage it, so it's basically made for Instagram. If your Instagram is currently very boring, this is one of the best places to go.

Pricing: So your allotted time is actually 1 hour and you pay $38 per person, but they're always having deals, we got 50% off when we went.

Covid Protocols: they have hand sanitizers in every room and you should wear a mask throughout. When we went, because there was no one there, they said that we didn't have to wear a mask throughout the whole thing, but they did come around and sanitize it after.

4. Richmond Country Farms

If you're looking for something outdoors, I've got just a thing for you Richmond Country Farms. This is not just a farm, it has a farmers market, during the autumn it has a pumpkin patch, during the summer it has a sunflower festival and all year round there is a winery. The winery is awesome it is super beautiful it is called Country Vines Winery and they don't just sell wine from Richmond but also from the Okanagan and from the rest of B.C. as well. Honestly it is also really beautiful spot to take photos and the wine tastes great. The farmer's market also has really nice fresh fruit and all of their items are locally sourced, so is a really great way to support local businesses.

Pricing: The market and winery are free (unless you buy something) but the Pumpkin Patch/Sunflower Festival charge a small fee for entry ($10-$15 per person)

Covid Protocol: In the market have to wear a mask at all times. In the winery you can take it off if you are drinking your wine obviously or eating. But in the Sunflower Festival or the Pumpkin Patch you do not need to wear your mask but you have to make sure you are staying six feet or two meters away from everybody.

5. Adventure Complex

Last up we have my favorite Apex Adventure Plex. This is a giant trampoline park with a whole bunch of different activities. As well as trampolines you get a ninja warrior type obstacle course, a basketball trampoline, a foam pit and more. They have so much to do, my favorite was definitely the basketball because to be able to slam dunk has never been something I'd been able to do.

Pricing: it is $20 for one hour or $29 for two, and honestly you can pay $34 for the whole day but you don't need more than one or two hours. I was absolutely knackered after 1 hour,

Covid Protocol: They do have them all listed in this video, they also have a very restricted amount of people which they let in at one time, so please make sure that you pre-book before you go.

I hope you found this list helpful! Let me know if you try out any of these activities or if there are any that I missed!

Have fun and stay safe!

Love from, Kesvi x
