Open Water Scuba Diver

As some of you may know for the last 4 days I have been doing tests and training for my diving licence. I'm very proud to announce that today I am officially certified as an PADI Open Water Scuba Diver - meaning I can do recreational dives of up to 18m depth! This is in fact the first of many licences you can get, but I'm happy that this is another thing I can tick off my checklist of things I have achieved. I am also so excited to use this in other countries I will visit!

We learnt just off the coast of the capital, Kota Kinabalu. I found breathing very difficult at the start, I would use my oxygen up very quickly, but as soon as I started to relax, I started to breathe easier. I was happy that the classroom part was only a few hours! We did in total 4 dives to get our licence. We saw some amazing sea creatures, including swimming with a turtle on our second day!

It was an awesome experience, we had a great instructor, called Eugene. It was just me and my friend on the course, which was nice because we both learnt at similar speeds and in similar ways, so neither of us felt any pressure from the other. I felt safe with Eugene teaching us, which is so important.

Stay safe out there.
