Flying with Air Canada in 2020 Vs. in 2021: Getting an International flight during COVID 19

Don't want to read? I got you:

This post is particularly going to be about Air Canada. I took two air Canada flights during this pandemic. Flying is so different in 2021 than in the past. You need to know a few things before going to the airport. So, let's discuss what to expect when getting on a plane in 2021.

Boarding the plane:

Before COVID, they used to call us in groups. They still do it. But there are fewer people in each group now. Even though they don't have the dots on the floor anymore, they still tell you to keep your distance when lining up. You also need to wear a mask. When I flew in July 2020, even though there were dots, people still would stand close to each other. Now they actually maintain the distance. The airport is pretty empty compared to other times. There were not many people on my flight— this is something I expected because people are not encouraged to travel.

Onboard the flight:

The flight is evenly spaced for everyone. But you can choose to move after the plane takes off. I didn't want to move because I had enough space and didn't have any reason to move. However, there was someone behind me and in front of me. I could move if I felt unsafe.

When I was on board, I felt everything was sanitized. All the pillows, banket were sealed, so I knew nobody touched them before. You also get a sanitizing bag when you get on the flight. You get a mask, headphones, snacks, a hand sanitiser, and a small bottle of water within the bag. During the whole flight, all the passengers were wearing masks and gloves. When they're serving food, they wear masks and a face shield as well. Passengers are expected to wear the mask the whole time. So take masks that you are comfortable wearing. The only time you can take your mask off is when you're eating. They do give you masks if you ask for one. However, they don't come as often as they used to. But if you press the call button, they will come as fast as they can.

When I got on my flight to Canada, we had a dinner meal and a morning meal. The dinner meal last time was literally just like a sandwich and a couple of snacks. But now, they have created more of a meal to eat while you are on the flight. Now they have the drink option wine, soda, tea, coffee, water. And the dinner is chicken with tomato sauce, bread, and butter, coleslaw, chocolate cake. The breakfast that I had on my flight in July and January is pretty much the same. They still don't serve hot breakfasts, but they do give you an option of tea, coffee, or juice.

► What you get within the CleanCare+ bag: - Mask - Headphones - Snacks (pretzels/biscuits) - Hand Sanitizer - Small bottle of water

► Dinner: - Chicken with a tomato sauce and (what I assume is) mini gnocchi - Bread and Butter - Coleslaw - Chocolate Cake

Drink options: - Wine (Red/White) - Soda (I can’t remember which) - Water - Tea - Coffee

► Breakfast: - Croissant and Yogurt

Drink options: - Tea - Coffee - Juice (orange/apple) - Water

Getting off the flight:

The last thing I will be talking about is getting off the flight. When I travelled in July 2020, there was no social distancing. Now that people are more aware and fewer people are travelling, there is much distance. The staff themselves aren't implementing anything in terms of social distancing. However, when you get off the flight, most public members understand the necessity of keeping six feet distance. So, people will automatically do it.

My final thoughts:

Overall, I am happy with my experience. Air Canada has done a great job. They are making sure everyone is wearing masks and staying safe during the flight. I'm so happy that they still come around with water, and they've now started serving alcohol during the flights.

So this is my experience. Please do share your experience in the comment section. I will love to read them. If you want travel tips in your inbox, you can subscribe to my newsletter.
