Climbing Mount Kinabalu - Borneo

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

This was definitely one of my toughest challenges to date. I had not trained for this and I really regret that! Even though you don't need to be the fittest person to do this trek, I would definitely recommend training before doing anything like this. We had a great guide named Ronnie and I was very lucky that my group were very encouraging and helped me get as far as I did.

Our eager faces starting the trek up Mount Kinabalu! We had no idea what was to come

Even though we were climbing up a mountain, it looks more like trekking through a jungle

Waking up at 1.45am is an absolute nightmare and freezing cold. It’s dark and you are climbing rocks which you’re not sure you’re going to get up. The air is thinner and the wind is strong. It is all worth it for this magnificent sunrise

The crazy views I got to see from the top of the mountain are just out of this world.

It's amazing the sense of achievement you get when you do something you think is impossible for you. This was one of those things. But I do have a confession, I didn't make it right to the peak. At the time I was very disappointed in myself but I was finding it hard to breathe at that altitude and to make it as far as I did, I realise now is a massive achievement in itself.
